Hi mate, I've got a morris minor with a ST170 in it ;D as for wiring i went with a megajolt £195, only 7 wires? 2 for the crank shaft sensor 3 for the coil and 2 for the vvt. I've wired the vvt to a swich on the dashboard but you can also wire it up to the shift light ;D I also went with bike carbs as i was struggling with room ;D

If you can get hold of wiring diagrams i should be able to point you in some sort of direction. I provide wiring loom conversions for the Rover/MG 1.8 VVC (MY2000>) to run in other cars (mainly metro's) using the standard Rover/MG ECU's. I can only imagine they use a similar ECU and Alarm ECU coded combination. With the Rover set up the alarm ECU only requires a few inputs to get the required output. I could wire that up to run in any car with a 12v battery lol!

Regarding the VVT, having rode in a Mk1 Cortina where the VVT was activated by a shift light output, I can honestly say I wouldn't bother. Even the owner agreed it was a pants idea really. It simply doesn't work if say you're trying to over take something, you've either got to drop a gear and hope it gets you on the right revs to activate it. I've seen a couple of set ups now where a micro switch is used on the throttle assembly. It still not 100%, but at least it works like opening a second throttle, ie when you floor it and need it, revs become irrelevant. The cars I've seen it on were carb anyway, one was a 38DGAS and the other bike carbs.

Thanks Ken ,I really fancy keeping injection on this car and hope to get the vvt running properly .I don't fancy the bike carb route but may have to untill I can afford to throw more cash at it .Life plans are changing as we speak so times escaping me fast ...

I looked long and hard to a cheap working solution for an ST. I don't think there is one. Certainly not one I think works properly, unless you start looking at the mega pound ECU jobbies. Looking at the HP figures that keep being bandied about, I actually think you're better off with twin 40's a normal 2 litre Zetec and a pair of cams, you pretty much achieve the same bhp if not more in some cases. Yes it costs, but if you do it in stages, you'll get there. I've abandoned the ST idea, going with normal 2 litre Zetec for now with a DD 38DGMS carb, and possibly a cam change later when funds allow then possibly throttle bodies. I just think for me, the VVT is more hassle than the gain.

That's how i've done mine, haven't got the best out of it because i use a vac/centrifugal advance dizzy with the one curve for a static engine. Think i'm gonna go for some mildly lively static cams instead, though obviously a fully programmable ignition system would sort the vvt.
