Do it! Don't forget the twin tailpipe and contrasting colour cage with parallel bars seen through the rear window. Twin tailpipes in a shotgun style are definitely what I want, would love the parallel bars but building a roll cage is likely to be out of my abilities. Got loads of chevette parts over the border here in Cornwall mate if you need anything, std or modified looking sweet as a nut. Good to see variety in the old chuvits! Thanks I'm not sure what I need at the moment, but I'll be in touch The vinyl roof is not in a good shape although you'll welcome to it, if I can get it off in one piece! That thread is fantastic, the rear spoiler is exactly what I want to do, but a bit taller. I got given a fibreglass BMW spoiler that I plan to use as a front splitter, like so....... .....obviously needs a bit of cutting and messing around with but it needs to be pretty big, the normal Golf GTi splitter is a little too tame. Plus I've ordered some cheeseburger lights ;D

Sadly mate, there is zero chance of having the CVH in for the Gathering the plan is to pretty much strip the car and do everything over the winter and spring, with a view to returning the car to the road next summer....... well fingerscrossed

Whats it lowered on buddy ? I'll check with the previous owner, but I think it's cut standard front springs and cut Corsa front springs (with towing spring blocks) at the rear, with what appear to be standard shocks. It's not a very refined ride, but I've had worse Not really sure what to do with the suspension long term, but decent quality shocks (spax, bilstein ect) seem like a good idea. As for springs I'm lost I need it to be pretty low, well as low as it is now to make the car how I want it. Custom springs might be the only way TBH.

Didn't Racer86's one have the budget (£50) MX5 coilover springs on the rear? and a set of front shocks converted to coilies should work shouldn't it? Anyway, good to see the plans, should be interesting to watch over the winter

Just bought a quick rack for the Viva from TJM, again, very good bloke. Nice to deal with.
As for springs perhaps try Springs 2000/South Yorkshire Springs. The guy there has had a fair bit of custom from us Viva folk, knows all the specs and can adjust them to make a lowering spring, did my -60mm springs. Might be able to do Chevette stuff as well. Otherwise I guess getting coilovers made up is a tad expensive?
I've got what I think is a set of genuine GM rear shocks for a Chevette, came in the boot of the Viva but don't think they are Viva and part nos don't match up. If you or anyone has a Chevette part number book I could check. Also have a random coil spring which I think is Chevette front. Your for peanuts if you need, but probably not much use.

Little update, thankfully the car got me to the Gathering and back home, unfortunately it's developed an almightly oil leak.... Vilerug (aka James) diagnosed that it appears to be coming out of the distributor drive hole. Seeing as it's coming off the road imminently, I'm not sure I'll bother fixing it. On a slightly more exciting front the rear lights have turned up.... The plan is to mount them on the boot as far apart as possible with the orange at a diagonal angle, like this..... If my terrible MSpaint skills are up to it I'll try and do a mock up Can't wait to get it off the road so I can start attacking it ;D

Not much going on with the Chevette at the moment although good things are on the horizon ;D I should in the next few weeks be moving it to a clean dry large unit where the unsympathetic restoration can start! I was planning to do it in the garage under my house but after a bit of research and measuring it seemed to be a non starter. Still the workshop space my two friends and I are renting will be much more suitable! In the meantime I got my sketch book out and did a few more drawing/brainstorms of possible modifications and style I like..... Also came to a decision regarding wheels I originally intended to get the wellers banded, but I think the original wheels banded would suit the style of the car better. I've also invested in a tube train carriage handle, as a kind of UK twist on the usual tsurikawa/subway handle you often see hanging from the back of Boso-style cars.... Need to pick up some Rangebob arches next so I can work out the width I can go with the wheels!

The only think i'm not sure on is the bolt on arches. They're getting a bit overused, and although they look great they're a bit tame compared to the rest. I reckon get the MDF out and make some box arches.

I hope it works out, half as good as I imagine it in my minds eye The only think i'm not sure on is the bolt on arches. They're getting a bit overused, and although they look great they're a bit tame compared to the rest. I reckon get the MDF out and make some box arches. I know what you mean the bolt on arches are a bit tame and a bit over used, but given the rest of the modifications I want to do I don't think they'll look too out of place, plus I could always cut and widen them? Honestly I'd love to do my own arches like this..... .....I've been pouring over Slaters 505 arch making thread, I just have reservations about durability and finish. As for the box arches they look good on some stuff but I think the Chevette is a bit too curvy to pull them off. Or something like this ;D Mmmmm tempting where can I find such items?

Well the Chevette is off the road and at the unit, so work will commence very soon Right, I've been after a suitable oil cooler to hang out the front of the car. After a bit of research and help from KFW (thanks dude) it appears the popular item to use is an RX7 oil cooler. Photo of one in action..... ....The inlet and outlet are both on the same side giving the pipes a more attractive routeing possibilities. RX7 ones are thin on the ground and uprated ones seem to be about £90, which more me is a bit pricey. So I got on ebay to find something that looked the same or similar, for a fraction of the price. After a while I stumbled across a listing for a Saab 9-5 oil cooler which had been cleaned up and was supplied with adapters to allow rubber hose to fit ;D I was the only bidder and got for £17 inc delivery. Okay it's second hand but it's in good condition and it's only going to be ruined on the front of the car anyway. Okay some photos of it..... ....and a close up of the fittings.... Hopefully with the car now being in a place where it can be worked on, actual exciting updates of grinding and welding will be coming soon

Inside and dry for the first time in a while.... ....first thing to do was rip the vinyl roof off, to see how bad the rust was. TBH I was a bit worried as the vinyl had bubbled in places which I has suspected to be rust, thankfully apart from a small amount of surface corrosion the actual roof is in reallt good shape! Que shocking photo, that makes it look dreadful.... Hopefully I can get up the unit on Friday and start getting the glass out!
