Unfortunately i have no pictures, but according to howmanyleft, there are 400 left on the road, it has a short mot but has only had one advisory in the last 4 years which was fixed, and whilst having a few very minor bubbles of rust poking through, the car is incredibly solid. Would you clever blokes think its worth anything more than scrap value, or not? it seams the general concessus here is that its a throwaway car, but something tells me otherwise....

We'd need a few more details than that. Mileage, overall condition, length of MOT etc. Also if it's a California won't it be a MK3, not a Mk2?
If it's a decent Mk3 in good useable condition with reasonable mileage then it's potentially worth up to about £400, though you'd need to re-MOT it first ideally. 'How Many Left' is almost like the new Parker's guide, in that (to an extent) it's not really worth the paper it's written/internet usage to view it. It seems to me that most people (mis)quote it to try and make their car sound really rare or valuable when that's quite often not the case. I'm not implying that's what you're doing I hasten to add!
Mk3 Astras are great cars, very reliable, cheap to fix and can stand a fair amount of abuse in 8V format. For a medium sized, cheap to run car then if re-MOT'd it has to be worth £350-£400

ahh, sorry... Mileage is 110 000 and mot is due next month (although it may be put through now) its been owned by the same family for a year, and there is no rust at all on the inner arches that i can see, theres a small buble on the filler cap and rear wiper, as well as some on the very lip of the bonnet, but nothing incredibly noticeable. Its recently had a new exhaust, 2 new tires and a new distributor arm \in the last year, my biggest worry is the mileage, as 110k still sounds like alot to me! Its not actually mine so I'm not sure if its mk2 or 3, but it looks like a mk2 to me :S I know howmanyleft is kind of pointless, i simply looked because i hadnt heard of the california before. Thankyou for the reply, i was thinking around £350 so thats a nice surprise!

110k is absolutely nothing to an 8V engine. Do you know what year or reg it is? Mk2s went to about 1991/2, Mk3s from 1992 to about 1998.

As I suspect definately a Mk3 then. Possibly worth advertising it here... www.mk3oc.com/forum/With a full MOT it might even be worth upping it to £495 if you advertise it on free sites as it won't cost to see what happens. I'd advise not to let it go for under sort of £325-ish as it stands, obviously add the cost of an MOT if you do submit it for a test. They are in that sort of 'banger/unloved' category now but I can happily confirm that they're brilliant cars that are very reliable and cheap to run. Lost count how many I've had over the years but well into double figures and never had any major grief with any of them.
