Don't know if this will fly or not, but here goes. When Mystery Machine posted up having acquired THAT land rover, it lead me back to the thoughts I'd been having about one of a field full of land rovers near me. Basically I've had two schools of thought, one of which I'll share here. The land rovers in question are all Series 3 as far as I can tell, with one 88" pickup and possibly a brace of 109s. My first thought I've illustrated on the 88, My starting point was this picture; A fairly standard looking Landy, and next up is running gear, well given that this is now well beyond knackered, perhaps it's lump, box and axle could be put to better use? A Perkins 4.236 Diesel lives here: Copying the idea of low-pros on truck rims from this: Leaves the idea of something like this, the only question being what sort of chassis to attach it all to, I mean ideally I'd want free tax, but what else? That's what has been floating around, very unlikely it'll ever make it further than the bit of fluff I call my mind, but there it is. What ideas have you guys had that haven't made it past the idle daydreaming phase?

There is no way you would get twin wheel axle with such dished wheels under LR bodywork. Maybe if a flat bed rear or massive flared arches (would look silly) but that isn't the style you want. Might be far easier to put Land Rover bodywork onto the truck chassis.

Yeah, I had considered that, hence this is the "certainly not going to happen" ones of my plans, However perhaps the back body of the dodge could be reused, but I think it would be hideously out of proportion on the 88.

Very narrow axle? I'm always building stuff in my head. A couple of recent ones: FIAT Panda - a middle era one, complete with scruffy standard steelies. Banded inwards. With the rear ones connected to a mid-mounted Alfa Romeo V6. With Panda Van panels instead of the rear windows. Scimitar GTE (SE5/a) with a Ford 302 and a 4+OD 'box (purely 'cos I want something with an overdrive). Quick, practical (if thirsty), and simple as a simple thing to maintain. Shouldn't be hard to build either. And 4x114.3 PCD for many awesome wheels. EDIT: ZOMG life-size Scimitar picture...

Landrover panels are flat, just make it wide enough to fit the truck chassis. Two of my "in my mind" vehicles use the same parts, you need one Range Rover Classic 2 door and 1 Scimitar, wheel base is about the same, so you swop the bodies over and run a low RR (would need a rood chop to look right, but the glass is nearly all flat anyway) and I wouldn't go full on monster truck for the Scim, more Overfinch stylee.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

I could be here all day lol.
Most involve daft engines or silly bodywork/paint.
One that floats round my head alot is the 205-MR2 cross bred.
AWD Turbo AX is another lol

Glad I'm not the only one that does this! One I'd like to do: S1 Rav4 'fatboy'... 90's corolla based, so mod some corolla/celica coilovers to drop it on its . Engines were a 2.0 NA 3SGE, so the 3SGTE (MR2 turbo/celica GT4) should bolt straight up to gearbox and engine mounts.

What ideas have you guys had that haven't made it past the idle daydreaming phase? Triumph GT6 Toyota 7M-GTE engine. Invert the sill section on one side to make room for a side exhaust. Perspex rear hatch in the style of the Cobra Daytona. Low as I can get it, with some wide deep dish Revolution wheels on it. Wolseley Hornet/Riley Elf Cut down in the style of the Mini Sprint. Clubman front panels, in place of the round nose. Cut down/modified Ashley hardtop (ex MG Midget) Thats two of the many that have been going round in my head! ;D Rich

I was just thinking yesterday of one that I almost did but never will.
Skoda Favorit body, cut and welded onto BMW E30 floor and drivetrain. Insert M50/52 engine, downgrade E30 brakes to very early 316i ones to fit Favorit 13" wheels on. RWD Favorit: win No brakes worth a mention: fail.

Most of my current 'head build' projects are engine swaps. ie, Honda B16 into a Triumph Acclaim for untimate OAP spec sleeper, or a SAAB turbo dropped in a Toledo/Dolomite for 400bhp rwd fun As a kid a 'did' a mini van with Morris Minor wheels and vertical exhaust thro the roof! (Dunno why), and I still have plans i drew up somewhere for a Beetle hotrod that was going to be based on a chassis of some description and a Gardner 6LXB 14ltr straight six diesel up front. Current 'head build' is a Triumph Herald body sat on a Toyota Hilux Surf chassis with Lexus V8 up front, all put together in a Gasser stylee. I have serious hopes of eventually building that one

Todays "build". Actually might try this one. One of these, maybe a bit more "posh" than this one To keep it sort of in the family, the awesome 4.0 turbo six and ZF 6 speed auto out of one of these. 6-700 bhp is not out of the question. Larry

How about a Heald (preferably estate) with Freelander engine (TD4) transmission and BMW 3 series rear axle. To make a 4WD estate.
