I've somehow managed to miss the last couple of updates on this one, just when it started getting interesting! Enviable work as usual. I admire your confidence above anything else although you clearly have the skills to match.
I was hoping for a DIY musical soundtrack on the video though

I did consider that actually, but wanted to get it uploaded quickly and didn't have anything suitable pre-recorded. I don't think that's the last timelaspe film though, it seems to work quite well ;D

Love this thread, love the car and really love the updates. Lose photobucket thanks to the avatar of a traveller hobo Welshman with a penchant for tat? (he knows I love him really ) Easy, open up a FlickR account and make some YouTube vids. Can we get an update via a cartoon flipbook too please? It's going to be a cool car when it's done...it's been a while since we've had a Scary build thread to follow so I'm sure lots of people will be watching this keenly. I know I will. ;D

Today I moved on past the dodgy wheelarch to have a look at the back panel and valence.... Mainly because the tail light I bought on ebay last week turned up. I have a few problems with the back end, firstly the car has facelift lights when it should have the smaller early type. This is down to the comprehensive messing about it has suffered in the last 40 years - I think sometime in the 80s someone facelifted it with parts from a later car (several bits including the rear panel and the heater still have ford parts stickers on them dating to 1986) and then sometime in the late 90's someone did a load of bodging up and sprayed it (OMG free tax syndrome...) before it got parked up and then I got it. Anyway, the dash I can live with (unless I find a good prefacelift dash of course) but wrong rear lights just annoys me. It seems to be really common with old fords for people to "improve" them like this, but I don't like it and it doesn't fit with what I want the car to look like (anyone guessed yet?) So, I bought a rear lamp on ebay. It's a bit of a shame they also fit mk1 escorts because that drives the price of new/mint ones up, but I got a tattyish one with a cracked lens for £3.20 just to use as a pattern. Looks like I can make that work ;D so on with removing the large amount of filler that is hiding the welds and also hiding rather a lot of rot. I think I need to make a rear valence. It's ok though, this one has too many holes and not enough exhaust cutouts

My mate might have the rear light sections you need for that Andy he had part of a back panel cut from a pre facelift Capri with the Escort size lights. I'll check he didn't sling them out and let you know tomorrow.

Regular readers will have noticed the lack of any progress for a whole week, and assumed that I had to work for a living for a while... they are right. I now have several cars less to look after, more space in the yard and (importantly) some money so I'm back on with the capri. Turned around so I can tackle the passenger side floor and sill. Hurrah! More rot! Bits like this and this In fact, it's starting to look like this sill is largely made of filler. I did find the odd reasonably done repair though... probably a fair bit older than the filler (and the sills) but still sound. Shame about the rest of the panel, and the surrounding foot or so of car.... As of this evening it looks like this. Not quite as big as the other side hole was, but I haven't finished cutting yet (ran out of disks) If I'm lucky, I can work on this all tomorrow and most of the weekend. Welding time ;D

Yep usual capri rot, what are the rear sping hanger like? they rot out aswell ::)and are difficult to repair the front one's, and new panels for capri are not cheap But keep up the good work

Yeah, I seem to remember having to repair the spring hangers at the same time I replaced the spare wheel well (about 5 years ago)
Panels are indeed expensive, that's why mostly I'm making them (I had some sills and strut tops "in stock")

^ I'm glad ;D Do you remember going to a scrapyard and rescuing some capri back lights for me a few years ago? Same car! That's the set of lights I've decided not to use after all.

Actually, those facelift lights came in useful today! Daz's mate came to see me with the prefacelift lights I need and instead of payment he took the facelift ones (which he needs....)
