This, the factory sump guard... Apparently it's still available at Mercedes'. I've just ordered mine. For the whopping price of - *hold breath, prepare to faint at astronomical price tag* - 24.00€. Aka. £20. I'm still in disbelief - I've ordered today, should be able to collect it thursday morning. I'll let you know if it's realy a sump guard that turns up ;D Part number is A 123 520 03 42 - both my and the guy at the counter's Parts Cataloques link the number to the sump guard - so must be right. I'm in a bit of doubt still, as normaly - they neither reduce prices, nor sell stuff cheaply. Hmm... Very exiting ;D I'll let you know on thursday ;D Here's a bit about the installation: www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/160706-w123-skid-plate-install-w-pix.htmlI was always a bit worried about the exposed oil pan on these - this will give piece of mind I'm sure There's also a extension for these sump guards which extends over (resp. under) the front valance & radiator - but it's NLA, unfortunately. And now you know what the half-cut out holes in the front wings are for The rear part alone should be quite enough for basic protection though, especially on lowered cars. Cheers, Jan

I've bought quite a few bits for my coupe from the MB dealer, supprisingly cheap! (unless is some big chrome trim, for that you need to bend over and take a deep breath!)

If you have an original chassis number MB will supply everything they have ever produced even if its goes onto re-make..
What other Manufacturer offers a parts promise like that............

You can find out part numbers on your own, all you need is a subscription to the online-EPC (Electronic Party Cataloque). It's about 20€/£17 for a years subscription. The main dealer then can simply order your part with that number; usually takes about 1-2 days for it to arrive (no extra charge for shipping). Anyway; they'r realy that cheap. Price of the raw material must be higher!? ;D I've collected my sump guard today. It's a original Mercedes part, as sold/fitted to countrys with bad roads. Apparently they still stock over 600 of them; which explains the low price - they probably want to get rid of the stock. Anyway, it'y very tough - 2mm steel. And has a hole for oil draining - very handy. Cheers, Jan

Some pretty - erm - weird roads there. The W124 with which we went there 2 years ago hit the ground several times... Better be save than sorry.

Good work! I had one on my W124 as standard because it was the 4matic model. Well worth looking in to if you've got one of those too ;D

My guess is, thanks to you, they might sell a few more now I never had any problem getting parts from Mercedes agents for my old 123 230TE. - and often the prices were quite reasonable - if not there was always Euro Car Parts. I reckon the parts supply for the 123 is so good that they'll be many of them on the road for years to come.

Damnit, I could have done with one of those ten years ago with the w123 Lowrider. After breaking two of those alloy sumps (which are an utter sod to replace), I made a panel out of 6mm steel between the chassis rails. Never broke another sump after that.

That looks great. Ive been after one myself for ages and have ended up making my own, though would be great to get the real thing. I have a w123 estate which was a 230te auto ive ripped the engine and gear box out and replaced it with the later 2.5 diesel and 5 speed box. The sump to me seems slightly lower and as I live in Darkest devon Ive smashed one to many times and holed it hence making my own sump guard. ive also jacked it slightly with heavy duty springs on the front, 126 springs on the rear and the use of bigger tyres. Are thes skid guards universal to all 123's or do i need to find the best fit and modify it on. Cheers Tom

Ok, apparently it's still in stock, seems there was a missinformation about Sorry for that! Resp. I'll visit my dealership tomorrow again (or give them a call) to make sure on the status quo. Oh, and here's the part number fpr the clips which make installation of the sump much easyer: A 123 990 08 91 They slot into the hole on the frame rail... www.benzgarage.de/technik/u-schutz/u-schutz.htmlkingtom: they'r uni-fit for all W123s. But I'm not sure if it fits the lower sump you have... If it's not too cold tomorrow, I could measure the distance between the 230E sump & skid plate, it that's of any help to you? And welcome to RR!! Maybe you could put up some pics of your conversion? I'm thinking about the saem engine conversion Cheers, Jan

Thats great. Afraid you'll have to wait out for some pics as I am working away and wont be back till april. Also left the car to get resprayed so looking forward to getting back and seeing how shes looking. I am defiantly going to invest in a skid pan though. So chuffed to finally find what ive been looking for.

If only I'd known. Well maybe....
Bought a secondhand one down here in Oz last week for £175 after smashing THREE sumps in just under a year. Yes three, and I drive like a blinkin vicar. Problem is, the 230TE I own sits on H&R lowering springs, with 16" AMG Pentas on low profile Toyos. Not a great mix with the alloy sump it seems especially with the prominent camber of the cobbled bluestone diving in and out of Melbourne streets.
I did ring Mercedes here about a new guard $358 delivered, so then rang a Merc dealership in the UK. Not 20 quid any more, more like £95 so when all is said and done I'm probably better off with my secondhand one.
Ordered the clips from the UK though, 95p each which means they'll be $15 at least down here.
