It pains me to list this Swift but it just doesn't fit into my long term plans and I'm now running out of parking spaces and faced with some hard choices. Basically this is my daily driver, easily the most reliable car I've ever run and a real joy to own, it's only crime is it's not quite as iconic as some of the other projects at Rustempire towers, hence the advert. So lets start with the details: Model: 1987 Suzuki Swift GLX 4 door, slightly uprated with running gear from a Mk1 GTi Engine: 1375cc 8v 75hp Year: 1987 Mileage: 74,000 Tax: 31/01/2012 (Please note tax is £130 per year and I will tax it again at the end of the month so £400 o.n.o includes a years tax) EDIT: I did that ^^ It now has tax until the end of Jan 2013. MOT: 29/06/2012 Location: Milton Keynes, near the center about 10 minutes from M1 J14. Price: £400 o.n.o Contact details: PM me here or mobile: 07734 704125. Overall picture (taken last summer, it's currently wearing a thin veil of winter crud) History: My uncle bought this car about 6 years ago, he used it locally for a year and parked it on the drive when the MOT run out. It sat there for a couple of years and he then offered it to me. I was going to turn it down until I checked out the blue interior, green LCD clock and awesome spec for an 80's B segment car. The brakes and suspension looked tired and body needed a couple of plates (sills and around front towing eye) so I took a fortnight off work, stripped all the running gear off and did the following: - Welded the rust, cleaned the body underneath and undersealed everything. - Obtained good used GTi hubs, bottom arms and rear axle, painted and rebushed all with polybushes or genuine Suzuki parts. - Fitted new GTi front dampers with lowered front springs. - Fitted a pair of Bilstein rear dampers. - Fitted Mk2 GTi front brakes with braided lines - GTi steel wheels (Given new Kumho tyres all round and a white paint job last year) - Replaced the radiator with a new one - Took it straight for an MOT and it flew through, as it has every year since. After that it's now had 3 years in my service as a daily driver with nothing but service items and never let me down. Current bad points: - Paint is very tired, patina, damage, call it what you will it's got a few little scratches and dents and has now gone quite flat on the roof. - No tunes, has a Ford branded radio / cassette but it doesn't work, never bothered me. - Blow from the exhaust, I'll try and fix this before it's sold. A blow from the centre join underneath the floor. I keep leaving it because it makes awesome misfire noises on the overrun! - Small rust hole at the base of the front wing. - Not amazing on fuel, I get about 30mpg but my runs are quite short and I think the auto choke over fuels a bit on start up, runs nicely after a couple of minutes though. And that's about it. I think I've priced the car realistically because I guess there's limited market for this sort of thing. The point is it's quite unique, costs very little to insure and tax and it's rather awesome. I'll post some more pics in a bit too. Thanks for reading. Rob

Some more pictures: Immense power from here: I've managed to stuff quite a lot in here: The heater works great but the Ford radio is just filling a hole: Underside condition after 3 years on the road, still holding up but maybe worth a refresh this summer?

Finally: Dials (now 74,000 miles), green LCD clock, awesome: Electric windows all round, all working: Electric mirrors + remote tailgate lock switch (all works): General interior shot, my mate added the gearstick, I have the original somewhere: Lastly I'd like to say I do have a fair few spares, such as another set of struts, bottom arms, rear brake shoes etc but I can't remember all of it exactly. I'll fetch it all from a friends unit and list it here. Thanks, Rob

Looks a mega bargain to start with, then there is the tax Thank you Mr Panda. TBH I'm looking for someone who will love it as I have. As I said it's not perfect but it's a good reliable car. Lets be realistic though, outside of "our world" where this kind of car is cool there's no calling. Ignoring the tax I'm asking for £270. The Swift is miles better than the majority of moderns you will find around for the money but park this next to say a £270 Corsa or Fiesta and ask average person what they might spend their loose change on and this wouldn't be it. Reliable, gadgets, different, fun, cool, blue dash, LCD clock. Nothing more needed from a car ;D I kid you not, this thing has a mood light! (A mini grille in the bottom of the HVAC trim that lets some of the eerie green backlight into the passenger footwell) Now you see why I saved it from the crusher 3 years ago. The thing is I have 4 spaces on my drive and, well, see my sig...........doh!

Sorry to hear she's going Rob, I know this little car has a place in your heart. I'm sure she'll be snapped up i no time, that's a bargain price. You still got the Mini?

The mini represents a project too far and is also on the "out" list. The Christmas holiday period was a big thinking time for me. I now have a hit list of cars I want to own, make nice and keep, anything that isn't on the list has to make way. Unless I can grow my drive of course

I feel like I have to add how much I LOVE this car! Rob's been kind enough to let me borrow this a few times when I've had no working cars and its always felt like a treat! haha
It never fails to start (almost unnervingly willingly, even in winter), can carry a decent amount of stuff (I had most of the rear subframe and suspension of my 200sx in it to be powdercoated!) and even took my housemate to Blackburn and back to watch the football in a day. Hell, it even handles well!
Its faaaar too cheap for what you're getting!
If I had space/the money/the planets lined up differently/my aunt was my uncle/etc I'd have it myself!

Dude, kind enough to let you borrow this, what planet are you on?
You know it's always an honour, lol.
I can't believe the amount of love this car is getting, it's not making things any easier and as it happens I hatched a couple of plans tonight which might see the Swift hang around for a while so lets see how things develop.
When I've got things sorted out a bit better I might have to convert this FS thread into a readers ride thread.
In the mean time anyone want to buy it before I change my mind?
Rob

You'd be welcome a drive in the Swift, or anything else from the rustempire fleet that happens to be on the road at the time. I was going to suggest a joint pilgramage to last weekends RR jumble but family commitments stopped me from going. Rob

That's nice, I bought a Felicia a few weeks ago but should've waited. Did you put the bear sticker on or is it 'original'? I had a Felicia 1.3 (?) a couple of years back, it was a minor change and was basically an East Euro car sprinkled liberally with a few VW family bits. Rattly as hell but so tough with it! The bear, the gear stick, the flurorescent orange thing on the keyring and FLC sticker on the side of the dash are all souvanirs from the number of times I've leant this car to people. There is only one condition of loan: "Anyone who borrows the car must perform a small modification before handing it back" I also have some flashing valve caps and a ghastly dolls head on a spring which belong to the Swift but aren't in the pictures. I guess if it gets loaned often enough it will eventually resemble a ram raid at a pound shop. Rob

I've been putting it off but I do need to sell this. The tax was fixed by me buying some, it's taxed until the end of Jan. The exhaust fixed itself when the back box separated from the rest. The car sounds epic on an open pipe but is no where near as loud as I expected. I'll listen to offers on this, especially from anyone with a cool plan for her Rob

I think thats awesome. Drop it and rock it.
If it was local, I'd have it.
Is it just the back box thats dropped? i.e. is the back section solid at the join to stick a generic back box on?
Does it have pas? I know its a light little thing, but our lass has feeble as standard.
