Just a thought but does anyone know of any companies still producing dtv old nail bodykits? Alternatively ( and hugely massively un****ing likely but... ) does anyone have one hanging round the back of their shed? And for your appreciation Thanks Ross

You would be very lucky to get hold off one, the droopsnoot group has the molds supposedly but you have to be there best mates and suck a$£e to get anything from them . I was missing the bonnet bulge from my kit and it took me 5 years to get hold off one. Heres mine with the bonnet bulge and one without

Oddly enough v8ade I was looking round your car a few weeks ago at mallory when baby Bertha was out. Very nice it is too by the way. I'm going v8 in mine with a bit of luck but much smaller rover with a manual.
Are the dsg that bad? Is it just a paid up member thing?
Cheers
Ross

there's a guy on here, i think, with a scooby based firenza who made his own kit from steel - sounds like it might be as easy as sourcing a kit

Sadly most parts for Viva's, Magnums & Firenza's are kept exclusively for club members Sadly I think this de-values the marque more than it benefits it, as not everyone wants to subscribe to a club just to get access to rare or desirable parts I heard that the DSG struggle to find anybody to produce kits from the moulds! I don't know how true this is, but I know half a dozen people who could make the old nail kits from fibreglass or carbon kevlar. So if anyone from the DSG find themselves reading this then I would be more than happy to pass on peoples details to the powers that be Also I know for a fact that "Bertha's" moulds still exist and are with the current owner of Bertha. But for obvious reasons he doesnt want these duplicated! Although they have been, atleast once to my knowledge Looks like we need to chop up Ade's 'renza so we can knock up some new moulds ;D

Somewhere I have got the article from mid 1975 "Vauxhall Motorist" where they tell the story of the Baby Bertha build....
Edit: IIRC they didn't do moulds, they one-offed it.

The one and only replica of Bertha lives(ed) less than 10 miles from me by a chap called Neville Powell who was involved with DTV team & Transpeed in some way. And in his words when he put it up for sale: "I was very luckily introduced to the owner who let me photograph every inch of the old girl. I was more than astonished to realise we often raced against him in the transpeed firenza and also the transpeed escort, small world Also it was agreed that I could use the original moulds and de-dion jig to build my replica if I agreed to not go into production!"

Actually I will give Nev a call this week as I have been meaning to have a chat with him about other things He may know more about the moulds as he also has an Old Nail Replica and is a personal friend of the late Gerry Marshall's son Gregor and is well known in DSG circles

I have had someone asking for a few years know to use my car as a mold and make some copies off the kit but i have refrained for know incase it marks the paint. I have been considering selling my Firenza as I'm bored off it know and want to concentrate on my new project so if you want one ready for the road thats great fun make me an offer. A few more pics for the fun off it Plus a couple off others I think this is painted in the gulf colours now Though this isn't an old nail kit I do like the arches

Like old 911s, Golfs and Escorts, less is more with these as far as I'm concerned. Fell in love with this white one on a trackday at Snetterton last year. Freshly built car, failed the static noise test. Owner chopped 4" off the exhaust to fit a silencer, only for the trackday to be cancelled due to persistent fog...

Sadly most parts for Viva's, Magnums & Firenza's are kept exclusively for club members That's incredibly petty behaviour. I wouldn't want to be part of any club that took such a childishly elitist attitude...

You try painting your Firenza Sportshatch silver instead of the "proper" colour and see what you get. I was so pi**ed off with the reaction I parked the car up and sold it. This was some years ago mind, I don't know if things have improved since.

Sadly can't help with the kit, but on the subject of clubs and parts....
we build a 16v Vauxhall XE powered Firenza for a guy from southern ireland recently, and he was, how shall we put it, none too complimentary about the club!!!! Apparently they didn't approve of his desire for a 16v modern engine so he could actually use the car reliably and regularly.
Fortunately neither him nor us give a toss!
He now has a very nice genuine droopsnoot firenza with nice reliable redtop power
We have found issues with clubs, mentioning no names, even keeping technical help and information for members only. We try to make sure we bypass this feature and put technical info up for all to see in the non-members sections.
I think its about time these clubs heard of the "carrot and stick" technique, we all prefer the carrot!

The problem with the vauxhall clubs is its all based on the Billing weekend.Thats all they`re interested in. So by holding back info ect and making you pay to view it gives them more money in the coffers for insurance and club displays ect for that weekend alone. I wouldent mind paying afew quid to be a member if i knew what i was getting in the first place. And if i knew it was going towards a better website ect rather than to aload of old men camping at billing slagging off everyone who mods THEY`RE car.
