I take it that is a deflex or flowflex set your looking at? I say that cos they allways get the bush sizes wrong It is only the front (chassis end) lower arm bush that comes in 3 differant sizes NOT the axle end, I have told them this so many times I lost count Basicly Mk3 would have been 43 till the facelift then 47, only late Mk5's are 50mm every thing from Mk3 (73 ish) till (81 ish) should be 47mm, at least they were from new, nowdays who knows? axles get swapped all the time so best check but they "should" be 47mm "void bushes" (they are all voided unless S pack or H/D) are the Rear Upper Arm Diff Also check the frobnt ARB cos the 18mm ones are rare only come on S pack cars. Mk3 are 12mm Mk4 are 14mm Mk5 are 16mm S pack cars are 18mm so check before you order One word of warning, i've found that when you fully polybush a cortina the rear end becomes very hard, the chassis can crack where the lower arms mount AND any small vibration in the running gear will be amplified by all that solid bushing, the design of the rear doesn't lend itself to hard bushing TBH, due to the differant angles of the top and lower arms, the bushes have to twist to allow the axle to rise and fall without binding, hense a fully bushed rear end is very hard (allmost like you've turned spax adjustable all the way up) ni on all cortina tuners and builders use rubber and live with changing the top diff bushes (void bushes) yearly check out buysell and see how many fully poly bushed cortinas return to rubber after the first season of use

Thats looks like some excelent advice bortaf!
Think i'll probably just polly bush the front then by the sounds of it. Think i'd rather have to sort out a void bush once a year v's a cracked chassis.
Now i might just buy the propper polly bush set (powerflex?) for the front and just replace the void bushes at the back with rubber. Will that be ok on the 2.3 axle with BOB cosworth power?

If it's an atlas axle it's take it OK as traction will be the issue that stops the axle breaking if it's the weaker Koln axle it''ll last about a week LoL Most 2.3s have the atlas but not all so just check if the diff ciover bolt directly into the diff housing (Koln) or into a flange around the diff housing (atlas) easy to check just run your fingers around the diff housing and feel for a lip around the back of it about 1/2 inch wide some just poly the axle end with no problems, in fact some fully bush em and report no difficultys it really depends on the millage you do, loads of built cats get sold on with no problems and the next owner gets the problems instead, that's when i usually get involved helping sort out cars built by somone else.

Turns out I have the Atlas axle so thats a bonus! Now I need to find a bush set. Been looking at just buying all of these! www.powerflexshop.com/index.php?cPath=30_111Is that the whole lot required for the Mk4? I'm sorry I'm just really rubbish at this and need to get it bought by tomorrow. which one on the list above is the void bush as I might just buy a standard bush to replace to avoid chasis damage. Thanks. EDIT - Oh yeah, Bortaf, if your at RR gathering this year i'll certainly have to get you a beer for all your help, its much appreciated.

Yes thst's the lot, the only bushes the don't do are the front X member to chassis bushes, way more expensive but half the problem with the de/flowflex bushes is they decided to change the design to what they thought would be better, not taking into account the Mk3/4/5s need to flex (as i said above), the design of these is the same as standard bushes so not as harsh in thier binding of the susspension. Still too much for me but then i have moobs and like a softer susspension set up

lol, we seem to be talking between two forums. Basically i don't know what bushes i need and what i don't!! ARGH!!
So the lot on the link above is all i need apart from the front cross member to chasis bush? do you know where i can get these from? Got a link?
You reckon the powerflex ones will be ok on the rear chasis and wont crack?
As said, you my man, deffo deserve a beverage of some sort for this. as usual i've left everything until the last minute and I'm rushing around like a headless chicken!!!

I was about to say, some bushes are better than others.
My 'B is on Superflex bushes on the rear and with the Spax dampers it is actually surprisingly compliant. No real increase and firmness and much more trusting rear end. On the owners' club they seem to think tris Combo is asking for a broken back. This is with them using the Club Poly Bush set generally which is around half the price of the Superflex set. I will admit I did try them on a whim/risk, after a couple of recommendations.

That's ok i've redone the lsit on BSC for you S pack cars is Mk4 2.0S or 2.3S and on the Mk5 they offerd an S pack you chose sports parts from, my old estate was a 2.3 GhiaS basicly a ghia with S pack (18mm) ARBs and a pair of spot lights lol you could get an LS GLS or GhiaS, H/D is estate cars with heavy duty rear suspension they had thicker ARBs and non voided bushes in the axle

See you do learn stuff everyday. Well as mine was originally a 2.3 GL auto i reckon it had the standard set up. Now is just need to know what sizes on the list as numbers 8, 13, 16, 18, 20, 22 on the list you've narrowed it down to all mention sizes etc. Think i've been quoted £370 for the lot, OUCH!!!!

ARRGGGGHHH!!!!!!!!
This is proving to be a nightmare! no one seems to stock 14mm front ARB bushes. Is the 14mm the diamiter of the hole or the thickness of the bush. Would you be able to use an 18mm bush on a 14mm ARB?

Unfortunatly not mate it's the diameter of the hole. I'll look see if i have a 16mm ARB but i sold all my 16s & 18s last year during a clear out, pluss the 18's are hard to find. They do 16mm ones so a MK5 ARB might be the sest bet and it'll handle better as well

I've just got back from the yard after measuring the ARB and the rod is 16mm so i presume i need the 16mm bush. Found a company that can offer powerflex bushes (with 16mm ARB bush) for just over £200. doesnt seem to bad as superfex were going to charge £430 for the lot.

yeah, i would have loved to speak to the chap who originally restored the car as there are lots of little secrets i keep finding. I think whoever did the work previously did a propper job too as the gear box looks to be in superb condition. The front cross member also looks brand new. now on a 1978 ford that means it must have been done otherwise it'd be covered in rust by now.

If in any doubt give Powerflex a call. They've always been happy to advise when I've pecked their heads about obscure Nissan/Datsun bush diameters lol.

Old topic I know but is one of the top google results for cortina bushes..
Ive just ordered a set specifying 47mm for both chassis and axle ends of the trailing arm and neither of them fit :/ Looks like I need 50mm for chassis end and 43mm for axle.
Measure twice and all that.
