What are the ingredients of The South London Look? I saw in this month's Retro Cars mag, the guy running is own business has an Escort Mk1 project which looks simply stunning, as is his customer's 100E. Its planted the seeds of the idea of running an Avenger or HC Viva in that style. So, what makes that look? From what I see, its: - Subtle paintwork, pastel/neutral colours - Satin bumpers? - Painted chromework? Light bezels etc. - LOW - Wide rims Anyway, I think we're overdue a thread on this look, so please share. Google isn't much help though

What are the ingredients of The South London Look? My South London look was run the car really low, 2" exhaust with plenty of sound, wide 13's and wide low pros. So a square-walled 185/55/13 instead of the traditional 185/60/13. Now you can't get them so easily you have to resort to 175/50/13's which are a bit too small in my opinion but the Harris's like running them. Some of the guys liked to pack a cage in as well, but we all had the same formula for the outside look. Anglias, Mk1/Mk2 Escorts and Cortinas mainly. Edit: and I always ran mine with the wheels well tucked under the car. I was never a fan of having the tyres too close to the arches. The car looks lower when they're well tucked.

Now that's bloody lovely. I'm sick of seeing all these Mexico reps everywhere with decals, quarter bumpers and the like - they're getting very twee. This on the other hand, looks the dogs danglies. Wow.

Where is my flame proof jacket... Isn't that the oldskoolford look? lol as in the forum? note some of those pictures are taken with film cameras, this is the sort of thing my old man was into in the 80's. pretty certain it predates whatever forum has chosen to coin the look as theirs ;D

cambered rear axle too. I know how he did it too :x I did my escort one jumping a ditch. Cambered rear axles are common on Escort race cars although not usually to that extent.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Thats how the J lads do it. Bend the axle from the diff casing and let the end of the halfshafts take the hammering.

Wasn't the Peppermint Green MK1 rolling on white Revolutions featured in Fast Car waaay back in 1993? It ran an HPE Pinto if I remember correctly.
There may be other claimants to the CROWN, but this was the first 'retro' car I can remember running a super slow stance and 7s.

Wow. Yep, I'm liking that a lot, and that^^ is why mine doesn't have any stickers Can't go lower sadly, I'd never get it out of the driveway

The guy who mentioned the 'South London Look' is my friend Gary who owns GM Bodycraft (www.gmbodycraft.co.uk). I was on the phone to him so I asked him for a definition. In not so many words it is a Car that is on the floor, with standard or very subtly modded bodywork, and basically looking rude ;D It can even be running standard rims for that tucked look Here's an earlier pic of the South London Look escort...

^^^^^ THAT is the car which made me start the thread. Its a beauty in Retro Cars, pastel blue with satin black bumpers. I love it, clean, classy, understated.
